Farewell Readers
Since July 2013 it has been my pleasure and honor to write this article every other week. Many people have shared with me about which of my stories were there favorites. Through this paper I have been blessed to meet people that perhaps I never would have.
I have received e-mails from Kathy Mudd asking have I forgot the deadline whenever I was running behind. She has always been gracious to work with my busy schedule, and I am forever grateful for that and the opportunity to tell my stories.
Due to my many responsibilities this will be my last article. It seems as though there are not enough hours in the day, nor days in the week to accomplish the different tasks I have before me.
I have tried to challenge you readers to laugh and enjoy life. The best way to do this is to look for humor even in the bad times. I have many stories about death that actually are humorous.
Last year I was called to the home of a 96 year old lady who was knocking at death’s door. Her voice had gotten so week that I could barely understand her. I went to her bedside and asked if she was ready to meet Jesus. She assured me that she was but didn’t offer up any other words.
I prayed with her and then went to the front porch to console her large family. While standing there, one of her sons came out and said, “Pastor Mama says she needs to tell you something.” I walked back into the room and was expecting to hear something great just before she died. I leaned down close to her and asked her what did she need to tell me.
There was dead silence in the room as she spoke these words to me: “I’ve got to Pee!” Now that was funny to me and to everyone around. Let’s just say that was the last thing I expected to hear.
I am now at the age where I have come to realize that I must slow down and enjoy life. So for now I will continue to pastor Shiloh Baptist Church, be a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.
I extend an invitation to all, “Come and visit us at Shiloh. In closing, Romans 10:1 describes my feelings best for all of you: Romans 10:1 (KJV) 1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel (Jasper County) is, that they might be saved.
