Students Job Shadow

Jasper County High School junior Morgan Caldwell was among more than 35 JCHS students who recently participated in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) job shadow day.

Miss Caldwell shadowed her mother, Liz Caldwell, with the U.S. Forest Service on the Oconee National Forest where she spent the day painting boundary lines. After spending the day with her mother, Miss Caldwell confirmed her suspicions that working in the field of forestry was “not her cup of tea.”

“This is exactly the purpose of job shadowing,” according to CTAE department head Mrs. Amy Scroggs. “It gives the students a chance to work in the job for a day to see if they would really like it, or for some, to see that they don’t like it. It is helpful to students to get a chance to shadow someone in that position to find out the ins and outs of the job to help determine if it would be a good fit for them.”

Members of FBLA were allowed and encouraged to participate in the job shadowing experience. Others participating in the shadowing experience and their shadowing sites Brandi McMichael, at The Monticello News. She followed Kathy Mudd for the day to learn about the weekly newspaper business.

Others job shadowing included Terisha Adams, Kolby DeGarmo, and Nic Harris, Jasper County Primary School; Shan Aikens, The Scotts Company; Lyric Arnold, Christian Caldwell, Alex Crabill, Daniel Darity, William Smith, Alexsia Stodghill, Kristal Webb, and Robert Womack, Jasper County Middle School; Star Caldwell, Ireland Moore, and Cole Usry, Washington Park Elementary School; and Morgan Baker, Countryside Veterinary Services.

Also, Destaney Graves, Kristi Levester; Cheyenne Gray, West Mane Salon; Maurice Jefferson, Sheila Jefferson; Walt McMichael, Thomason Farm; Lyric Norwood, Word of Faith Ministries; Eli Smallwood, Piedmont Academy Ag teacher; and Riley Smith, Horizon Retail.
