Overwhelmed by Death
Once again I’m overwhelmed by death. Death seems to come in clusters. This time death is overwhelmingly alarming to me. It’s because suddenly there have been several that are near my age who are passing away.
A few months ago a former childhood friend died the night before her 51st birthday. She was a very healthy, vibrant person, a schoolteacher who was highly respected by her peers and students.
Three weeks later another friend from my past died at 49 after a battle with cancer. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Last week it was a man who I grew up with and played little league sports with. Later we would compete against each other in church league softball. He died at age 50 from complications of pneumonia.
Today I will visit a man who in the past has professed to being an Atheist. Yesterday he was devastated to here the doctor tell him that he only has three to six months to live. His response was, “But Doc I’m only 52 years old.”
I will attempt to help him prepare to meet a God whom he has in the past denied even existed.
Truly all these deaths are overwhelming to me. It makes me think not only about my life but also about people’s lives. I feel compelled to share with you the importance of preparation for life after death.
It is a fact that 10 out of 10 people will die! Look around and examine the people that you know or have known and you will find this to be true. Death is no respecter of persons. It comes to large and small, black and white, and to all ages. The fact is our life is just a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow.
When death comes it is just the beginning. I believe the Bible, and it teaches that we will either go to heaven or hell. Jesus said, “I am the truth and the life and no man comes to the father but by me.”
It also states that there is no other way to enter heaven except through Him. My question to each person who reads this today is: If death comes to you today, do you know where you will spend eternity?
