Envirothon Team Advances To State

The Jasper County High School Envirothon Team will advance to state after achieving a high enough score at its region competition to be selected as a wild card.

The JCHS team placed fourth overall out of 11 teams at its region tournament in Athens last Thursday, competing in wildlife, forestry, aquatics and soils events.

The team placed second in wildlife, third in forestry and fourth in soils. The team has until Wednesday, April 16, to prepare for the state competition at the UGA Griffin Campus.

The students will have to put together an oral presentation on the subject of food production. JCHS will compete against teams from Appling, Columbus, Houston, Rockdale Magnet, Paulding, Stephens County and Greater Atlanta Christian.

Team members include seniors Maggie O’Kelley, Kylee Mason and Savannah Perales and juniors Emmi Wade and Tristan Armstrong.

The team is coached by JCHS science teacher Dr. Tyson Harty and Jehan El-Jourbagy
