Women’s History Month

To all the women out there, whether you work in or out of the home or probably in both places, thank you for being who you are.

March is Women’s History Month and what a better way to celebrate women than to say thank you for all you do.

Thank you for being creative in planning and cooking hundreds of meals, for raising productive and healthy children, for editing, publishing and writing a hometown newspaper, for being a mother, grand or great-grandmother, a guardian, a sister, an aunt, a friend.

In 1920 after nearly a hundred years of struggle, women were given the right to vote. Today, Georgia has 53 women occupying seats in our state legislature. In fact, we are represented in that body by Monticello’s own Susan Holmes.

Women work on farms, in factories and offices. Most teachers are women. Women wear a lot of hats.

Thank you for keeping the light in the window when we were out late, for teaching us things we would need to know when we were grown, for answering the phone when we accidentally ran off the road and needed help, for slipping little notes of encouragement in our notebook, for sending birthday cards with a check or money, for hugging us like no one else could.
