Daylight Savings Time

Bah, humbug! It’s Daylight Saving Time. Remember to set your alarm for 2 a.m., Sunday, March 9 and then jump out of bed and spring forward to change all your clocks.

No need to change your sundials, just remember to compensate for the change, just kidding….

Many people complain that it upsets their circadian rhythm.

Oops! When you grab an hour from the morning and move it to the evening, it does take a few days to recover. “When is it going to get dark?”

DST was first used in the United States during World War I in an effort to save energy for war production. In 2005, Congress voted to make DST permanent and even added four weeks. Arizona and Hawaii don’t use DST, so if you are going to those places, you’ll do some stem winding. Not to worry your cellphone and computer always seem to know what time it is where ever you are. Thank goodness.

Jasper County and Monticello fire departments want to remind you also to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Spring is a’coming. Don’t know if it was the freezing temperatures, the ice and snow, but the daffodils are really showing off this year.
