Hallowthanksmas

The Hallowthanksmas season has begun, oh, yeh, and, of course, Deer Season. This past Saturday, Monticello was brimming over with deer and dears as we celebrated the 47th Annual Deer Festival.

Fun was had by all, good food, entertainment, crafts galore and just seeing everyone.

Yes, that most wonderful time of the year, or supposed to be anyway, is in full swing as it is non-stop celebration for the next two months.

As if eating all that extra Halloween candy that you bought just in case it is was a banner year for Trick or Treaters will not pack on the pounds, the most anticipated meal of the year is guaranteed to make you tip the scales.

Thanksgiving food surely makes you thankful for all our bounty, but not all the bounty we receive from those calories. Over the past few years, grocery and the big box stores have sectioned off an area just for easy pickings for your holiday meals. How tempting is it to just open up a jar of that marshmallow creme or a package of chocolate chips and chow down while cruising the aisles?

And while you are out cruising, shopping, or just taking a fun drive to look at fall foliage, watch out for the white tails. According to those in the know, like car insurance folks, most deer cross the road to visit each other between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m.

This coming Monday, Nov. 11, Veteran’s Day, take time to thank our veterans for their service for our country and for all of us, USA, USA.

And be sure to peruse the section inside today’s paper and see the photos of so many local men and women who have served their country so it can remain free.

Let them know you’re proud to be an American.
