Five Weeks to Fab

I realize that spring comes sooner than what my articles are touting, but realistically, the weather doesn’t warm up until early to mid-April. This buys us a few more weeks to prepare, not procrastinate. I wanted to offer a few practical tips that, if followed faithfully, will help expedite your quest to look fabulous in five weeks.

This week make a list of the five things you consume that may be thwarting your weight loss efforts. Each evening look at the list and decide which item can be eliminated from your regular diet. By the end of the week, the hope is that you will have made a clear choice to consume less of that fattening fare.

Remember, our goal is to spring forward, looking and feeling better. Although it won’t be easy giving up some of your favorites, the added confidence and sense of accomplishment will make it well worth it.

With plenty of time to shape and tone—find new ways to get moving. Try a group exercise class at a local church. Show up to a JSpin class or use a guest pass at a gym in the area. Don’t wait. Walk your driveway or your neighborhood. Use the equipment in your house that is being used as a laundry valet. Order an exercise DVD. If you have always wanted to dance or do Tai Chi, what better way to learn?

During the next five weeks, eat at home and follow some type of nutrition plan. I’m not a huge proponent of dieting, but I do support following some systematic approach to weight loss. I recommend you consult with your doctor before you begin; you may be within your normal weight range for your height.

Through accountability, support meetings and the point system, Weight Watchers participants can expect results in a loving environment. If you have more than 20 pounds to lose, I recommend this approach. Be realistic. More than a pound a week of weight loss is not healthy. Think slow and permanent to avoid future dieting pitfalls.

Eliminating fare that is making you fat, choosing a mode of movement that motivates and selecting a systematic strategy to sustainability is your challenge this week.

When warm weather arrives, you will feel more confident and will look fabulous.
