Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings

“An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.” Don’t know about that, but it is apple eating and cooking time! As every cook knows, there are apples and then there are apples.

Most everyone has their favorite apple variety, personally Braeburn is mine which is good for just plain munching and cooking.

Many folks put Granny Smith apple on the top of their list. True, red and golden delicious apples look prettiest in a fruit basket.

Now that you can hardly wait to get a bag of apples, here’s an apple recipe that will bring a lot of smiles to your family.

Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings—take refrigerated crescent rolls, do not separate into triangles, and place crescent squares in ungreased baking dish. Peel and core “your favorite” apple and put in the square, sprinkle with cinnamon, take edges of roll and cover apple.

Melt one stick of butter over medium heat, mix in 1/2 cup orange juice, 1/2 cup sugar, a tad more cinnamon, stir until sugar dissolves, pour mixture over dumplings. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes until golden brown, serve warm with whipped cream or scoop of ice cream. Serves 4, but as my husband would ask, “Is that a single serving?” Thanks Betty Brooks for baking us this recipe, yum.

Bon “Appletit” Monticello!
