Smelly Daddy’s

Each year Father’s Day rolls around and the question always arises, “What to get dear old dad, pops, daddy?” Grilling tools, sports equipment, a big side of beef?

Some of us have lost our fathers, but we still have some fond memories. Maybe a memory of my father is one you might also share. My father always smelled good.

Our bathroom cabinet always had the familiar white buoy-shaped bottle with the little stopper, the classic scent, the 74-year old after shave, Old Spice. The newer commercials for Old Spice are a bit racy, but still get the point across “If your grandfather hadn’t worn it, you wouldn’t exist.”

Later, my Daddy graduated to the more modern scent, Aqua Velva. This fragrance is even older than Old Spice. The original sport green after shave is still around, but the newer icy blue is very popular.

Both of these products had catchy tunes and phrases that people still remember. The Old Spice commercial always had a nautical whistle and the Aqua Velva had the sexy girl saying “There’s something about an Aqua Velva man.”
