Southern Comforts

Sometimes we just need one of the trifectas of Southern comforts to give us that extra kick. I’m not talking about my great uncle’s tasting either.

Who doesn’t enjoy a glass of iced tea with crackling ice and a thin slice of bright yellow lemon?

Now there are those who can make tea and then there are, well… Of course, sweet tea in the South is also known as the House Wine of the South.

Knowing the perfect amount of sugar is learned around the dinner table at the side of your grandmother or someone in the know. They seem to know just the right amount to shake into the swirling hot tea.

Next, how good do clean, fresh sheets feel when you lay down on them after a hard day?

Before dryer days, my mother would hang the wet sheets on the wire line in the backyard, letting them blow in the breeze. Will they ever get that aroma right in dryer sheets? Fresh linen, not even close.

Finally, on my list of comforts, it has to be a hot round of corn bread pulled straight from the oven, pieces cut or broken, buttered and promptly eaten. Again, there are those who can bake corn bread and then there are others.

Enjoy some or all of these comforts this week, it doesn’t take much sometimes to just give us that kick into the next day.

Hope all your trees survived our high winds this past week.
