Sunsets

Just returned from three days in Panama City Beach, Fla., perfect time for the beach, still warm, the noise level is way down (the kids are in school), and spectacular sunsets.

Sunsets are always good for me, even the ones I see going west on Georgia 16 out of Monticello, but ones where there is nothing but water or ocean between you and the sun, well they are the special ones.

It seems a lot of, shall we say, “bars” get a lot of business as the patrons sip and watch as that big flaming ball of fire dips into the ocean and finally is extinguished. Some of the watering holes in PCB set off cannons to commemorate the event and scare the you know what out of you.

One of the reasons that my cousins and I went to PCB was to celebrate the passing of their mother and my only aunt. As the sun was setting, we wrote my aunts name in the sand by shuffling our feet and then lit sparklers. In a few minutes the name was gone, swept away by the surf. It was a fitting tribute for my aunt.

Please allow me to dedicate this Hello to my Aunt Loyce who died September 17, 2011. She was 96 years old and saw many sunsets.
