Come Dasher!

Come Dasher . . . It’s Not Too Late!

Do you still want to participate in the Deer Dash but haven’t trained? It’s not too late.

With around three weeks until race day, you still have time to get your body ready for the Deer Dash. Even if you have never run before, it is possible.

Each day this week, and in the weeks to come, put your sneakers on and get outside! Put one foot in front of the other, move and enjoy the fresh fall air. Don’t be concerned about how much mileage you are putting in. Walk/run until exhaustion—then stop.

It will be a good idea to eat light for the next few weeks as well. Walking or running on a full stomach is self-defeating. You will be able to walk/run further and feel more energized if you have small healthy meals.

Drink plenty of water. Remember, you should drink half your weight in ounces every day.

Either register at the Chamber of Commerce, or show up early on Saturday, November 5 to sign up. You will enjoy the “pre-run” gathering of fitness enthusiasts, and amateurs getting warmed up for the fun.

If you aren’t sure you can do the 5K, which is 3.1 miles, try the one mile fun run. Either way, you will be instantly initiated into the community of the few and fit and have the t-shirt to prove it.

You do not have to run the entire time. Many participants will choose to walk the course and some will do a combination of walking and running. Remember, you don’t have to race—your goal should be to finish.

Still not convinced? Then for no other reason, participate in the Deer Dash to support your community. This race is the event that launches the Deer Festival celebration that puts Monticello on the map.
