Lake Trip by Julieann Parr
One upon a time in the Parr house, last Monday…. WAIT! I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Julieann, I am the oldest girl in my family. We may have met before at Sunrise Gifts and Thrift, while I was volunteering at the cash register. I turned 13 Wednesday, it was my birthday, and I am now an official teenager at the ripe old age of thirteen…ahhhhhhh!
Shouts of excitement and joy echoed throughout our house Saturday and Sunday. You may wonder what I am talking about. Well, there is this great couple that attends our church, and they REALLY wanted us to come out to their place for a day of fun on Lake Jackson with them; we made plans to go, and here’s the story.
We were on our way to the lake, and we had turned onto Turtle Cove Trailway, when my dad asks my mom where to turn to get to the Combs’ house. She answered, “I don’t know, I thought that you have been there before.” My dad quickly replied, “No I haven’t, I thought that you got directions.” Anyway, we were lost until my mom got the brightest idea, she called them!
When we finally arrived, everyone exclaimed in harmony, “wow they have a nice place!” When we got out of the van, we were greeted with a hug. We walked down a little ramp, and into their outdoor pavilion /outdoor kitchen/ killer hang out spot. They had Cracker Jack, fruity 5 gum, and mandarin orange cups, and lots of soda! Mr. and Mrs. Combs are awesome!
Thirty minutes later, it was time to swim. We made our way in to their sandy beach, put on life jackets, and swam around the cove area while Mrs. Becky, Mr. Tom, Pop, Mom, and Dad talked and hung for a while.
Finally, the moment we had all been waiting for arrived. It was time to go out on the boat and go tubing! We hopped on the boat, and Mr. Tom backed us out of their cove, and we were off for a full day of fun in the sun!
Christian and I were first, and it was so much fun. We held on tight and enjoyed the bumpy waves and the splashes of water. Then Jazzy and Lindsey went, dad and Mackenzie, then dad and the twins!! You should have seen the twins out there in the tube…it was awesome. At first, Gabby didn’t want to go; she was scared and kind of freaked out. After a few minutes of the ride, she was giving Mr. Tom the thumbs up signal for him to go faster!
We rode over and over again. Mackenzie wins the award for most extreme! She would stand up on the tube and then would let go while the boat was in motion! Then there is my dad, my wacked out crazy fun dad. He wins second place! He would stand up on the tube, then jump up and flop all around while acting like he was going to fall off.
The funniest part was when he would start doing his little “Oh my God help me cause I’m gunna die” act; then whoever was riding with him would all jump out of the tube together, and on purpose. Mom and Ms. Becky hung out on the boat while getting soaked when the boat hit the waves! That was funny!
After a fun time tubing, we ate; those burgers were good! After dinner, we went swimming some more; then it was time for more tubing! Mr. Tom and Mom took us out on the lake again as the day ended, and we watched the sunset on the lake. Mr. Tom decided it would be cool to let us all drive the boat…Awesome!
Sophie went then Gabby, Mackenzie, Lindsey, Jazzy, me, and then Christian. Did I mention the sunset… omygoodness! I have to say that Lake Jackson wins the award of most pretty sunset in Jasper County!
After we had fun on the lake, we snacked on Mrs. Becky’s stellar Banana Pudding, and then to finish our night, we enjoyed the spirit-filled song “How great thou art” that Carrie Underwood sang with Vince Gill. That was my day on the lake!
