Graduation

Well, the Jasper County High School graduation ceremony is still on for Saturday, now that we are not obliterated by the Dooms Day prediction.

Piedmont Academy graduation on that very day, May 21st, bravely went on. And while we’re on the subject, congratulations to the Class of 2011! We expect a lot of good things out of you.
Stepping out of the high school world into the big new world is quite daunting for most.

Whether you go on to college, some other higher learning institute or a job, you soon discover that high school was a breeze.
Now, they expect a lot more out of you, be on time, write papers with long words and correct grammar (yours truly apparently missed that class), meet deadlines, play well with others, keep up with your money and pay your bills before time.

Those lazy, hazy days of high school will soon fade like your school pictures as you settle into a new routine.
Some of you will leave us, our small town, and head for the big city lights. Don’t forget to write or in this day and time, e-mail or text.

Some great person said you can’t drive straight if you are looking in your rearview mirror. The past is the past, don’t drag it with you. These words are written by someone who has lived long enough to know better than to give advice.
My best advice came from Kenny Rogers, “to be happy in this world, have something to do, someone to love and something to look forward to.”
Hey, Class of 2011, your hometown, Monticello, wishes you the best!
