French

By the time The News reaches your door today, I will be in my bed in Paris trying to go to sleep with the unfamiliar sounds of scooters screaming by, weird police sirens and night people walking by on the street speaking, of all things, French.

There are a few reasons why everyone should go to Paris once in their life.

It is the most beautiful city I have ever visited. The city is like a simple gift wrapped in fancy gift wrap. They light their buildings, their trees, and especially the symbol of Paris, the Eiffel Tower.

Also, there is the food. I have often said the French could cook your shoes and they would be delicious with a rich sauce on top. Viola!

And lastly, there is the history and romance. Paris born of a small Roman fort in the middle of the Seine River, the turmoil of the Revolution, victory with Napoleon, desperate years of wars, 2000 years of history. And through it all, the people of Paris enjoy romance. Public displays of affection are as accepted as us eating an ice cream cone on a park bench.

That we all should have what the French call “joie de vie,” the joy of living. So pardon me if I immerse myself this week coming in “joie de vie, ya’ll.”
