Wierd Jason

I was in the grocery store the other day picking up a few last minute items before the great “blizzard” of 2011.

It was amazing to see some of the shelves in the store completely empty. I do not understand what people are so afraid of when this weather hits. Mass starvation seems to be a concern.

I tend to worry that the snow will melt fast; and that I will have to get back to the grind quicker than I would prefer.
Honest…I am willing to survive on beans and bread if it meant that I could play in the snow a few days longer.

I guess that makes me a weird person; that, and the fact that the cashier informed me of the fact that her mother seems to consider me weird as well.

Seriously, as I was standing there waiting to be checked out, the girl told me that she and her mom had just finished talking about me that day, and her mother said I was weird.
Well…there it is people, right out there where you can see it from a distance. I, Jason, father of six, am a weird person…grrrreeeeaaaat!!!!

O.K., so here is the question. Am I weird because of my children; or are my children weird because of me. Here are a few examples as to why I ask.

We do not have television, haven’t for awhile, so our conversations do not include topics that surround anything having to do with TV.
When people are talking to any of us about any television shows, we all get a big blank look on our faces. All of us!

We used to try to pretend like we knew what people were talking about, which just made us seem weirder; now we just proclaim our ignorance and respond with “we do not watch television,” while attempting to not sound self righteous! Its tough people…tough.
When Christian was in one of the earlier grades, I think it was the first; he was given a questionnaire about his favorites in life.
They included which were his favorite color, animal, music, vacation, weather, sport and food.

Now, all of his answers were O.K., until he got to the food question. Christians answer was that his favorite food was…here it comes…I hope you are ready for this…Cream Of Wheat!
I was expecting to see something like, oh I don’t know, pizza or tacos! Evidently so was his teacher because I got a phone call! She was wondering if I was aware of the degree to which my first grade son was a weirdo! Cream of wheat…who’s favorite food is cream of wheat? (Consequently, I love the stuff!)

This issue of being weird brings me to what occurred in our home night before last.

When I returned from the trip to the grocery store, I proceeded to make some home-made blue cheese dressing to eat with some cut celery.

I make killer blue cheese dressing! Cheryl and I sat down to play a few games of chess, and enjoy our snack, when the kids came in from playing outside.

I also bought some Mayfield ice cream, and I told the children that they could serve themselves some of the treat.
Mackenzie got done serving herself the ice-cream, and came into the dining room to watch Cheryl and I play our game. When she got to the table, she spotted the celery and blue cheese and freaked out!
She then proceeded to push away the chocolate ice-cream and chow down on the “adult old people snack!”

Who in their right mind chooses blue cheese and celery over Mayfield Chocolate Ice-Cream?
She’s weird, super-duper, and certifiable…and I guess so am I because when she pushed the ice-cream away, it landed right in front of me; and I shoved it aside as well, because it got between me and the celery. Well, there you have it!
Weird Jason,
father of the weird six
