My Christmas Wish Santa List

Dear Santa,
Well, I have certainly TRIED to be good this year! I hope you can overlook those few instances, though. I certainly didn’t mean to….
My garden was rather neglected this past summer, as I was hard at work with my doctoral dissertation. I most certainly hope to do better this coming summer, and I just know that a few gardening presents from you would go along way.

First, Mr. Claus, I would really appreciate a pair of hand pruners. With the constant pruning of roses, flowers, and small limbs, my pruners have worn out, and a gardener is always in need of a good set of pruners.

I have found, Santa, that gardeners always enjoy subscriptions to good gardening magazines. In those magazines, I can always find new ideas and tips for my gardening, as well as reviews of new plants. Along with this, Santa, I simply love to look at the pictures of other gardens in the colorful magazines, as I usually get new ideas for my own gardens. These gardening magazines are often just what I need to look at after coming home from a day at work, and it is too cold to garden outside in the winter time.

Rubber buckets, sometimes called Tubtrugs,” seem to be the latest craze for gardeners, as they hold water, dead flowers, leaves, and other debris in them, are easy to carry, and are flexible in their design. I am sure, dear Mr. Claus, that this would be most helpful for any gardener. It would also be a great way to collect rain water, as one can simply carry the rubber bucket to anywhere in the garden, filled with water from a previous rain.

Composting is big, these days, as many gardeners try to go green, environmentally, that is. After a gardener builds a compost pile, it is important to turn the pile on a regular basis, about once a week. Pitchforks, or gardening forks, are just the thing to do this. Santa, I sure could use a new one. Besides the compost pile, a garden fork can also help me to turn the soil in new beds, as well. They come in a few different sizes, though I prefer the bigger size, myself, as it allows me to not bend over nearly as much.

Speaking of bad backs, how is yours, Santa? I can’t imagine that going up and down chimneys is really good for your joints. As my back becomes a little tighter each year, and my knees start to hurt a bit more each summer, too, a kneeling pad would be the ideal gift for any gardener. These pads allow gardeners to kneel down and get close to the ground for weeding, planting, etc, while keeping the knees comfortable. What a great and novel idea for those aged gardeners.

Finally, Santa, for the gardener who has everything, I am sure that a gift certificate to a garden store would be most ideal. Merry Christmas, Santa, to you and to all!
