Nutmeg
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin alerts consumers to the recall of a spice that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Frontier Natural Products Co-op, Norway, Iowa, is recalling nutmeg supplied to it by Mincing Overseas Spice Company in Dayton, N.J. The product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, the frail and others with weakened immune systems.
The two recalled brands, Frontier and the Whole Foods Market, were manufactured with non-organic nutmeg. They were distributed throughout the U.S. and parts of Canada.
The recalled products are:
Frontier Bulk ground nutmeg, 16-ounces, lot code 0306 with the UPC code 0-89836-00165-8 and,
Whole Foods 365 ground nutmeg, 1.92-ounces, lot code 0321 with the UPC code 0-99482-41921-8.
In the bulk packaging, the lot code is found on the front label directly above the UPC code. On the Whole Foods bottled glass item, the codes are at the bottom of the bottle.
Those with this product should not consume it. The bulk product should be destroyed or returned to Frontier while the Whole Foods item can be returned to place of purchase. Frontier can be contacted at 800-669-3275.
