Time to Cook-And Thanks for Family
Dear readers, I am taking a small break from the Tree House project to address the Thanksgiving holiday. I do hope that you have gone to YouTube and watched our video at “jasontcam tree house.” Please check it out!
As far as this holiday season is concerned…IT’S TIME TO COOK!!! I just love to cook, really I do; and the children love it as well. Lindsey is the baker in the family, specializing in chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin bread; and the most amazing orange cheesecake you have ever wrapped your lips around.
Julieann is good at cereal, ramen noodles, mac and cheese, and re-heating leftovers in Styrofoam to-go boxes in the oven! Seriously, she can make a terrific apple crisp from scratch.
Christian has developed some recent skills with breakfast meals, and can make awesome grilled burgers…he is the “grill master” around here.
Mackenzie is just coming into her own as a cook. She can, however, stir anything I need stirred, shake whatever needs shaken, and the girl is a master at cracking and cleaning pecans. All kidding aside, she is fast!
The twins, oh what can I say about the twins…they are masters at making a mess. Any size, any shape, any color, and any flavor; mess, mess, mess, mess, mess!
Oh my goodness are they awesome at making a mess; and at being very offended at the very suggestion that they were the ones who created such a horrific thing of mayhem. Yep…I’m just glad they haven’t tried to bake one yet!
Well, my Thanksgiving specialty is Low Country Boil. I just love to make my boil for the holiday. Honestly, where we got the idea for turkey and ham with stuffing and stuff is beyond me.
If I were among that gang who came to this new world, and landed on the beach, (you know, with all those crabs and shrimps and clams and oysters), I would have made a thanksgiving meal of seafood!
Well, I am doing all I can to correct history by insuring that here at the Parr house, we are eating a proper holiday dinner; and the kids just love it!
Man, my mouth is watering just thinking about all that shrimp, sausage, corn, onion, potatoes, and spices rolling around in my big Cajun boiling pot.
As we gather around the table on Thursday, and we share with each other why we are thankful, I will look at each one of my children, and my wife, and I will tell them that they are my reason.
I need no other reasons to be thankful except my beautiful wife, my terrific son, and my precious daughters. They are my treasure…and for that…I am the richest man in town.
Jason, father of six
