Thankful for…
As we approach the time of year where our nation gives thanks for the blessings that are bestowed upon us, I like to take time and reflect on the abundance of blessing that comes to me in my garden.
I am thankful for the new friends I made gardening this year.
I am thankful for the colors that surround me as the leaves change. I am thankful for the constant motion in the sky as these leaves float to the ground.
I am thankful for the sounds of the birds as they serenade me throughout the seasons, whether it be the nuthatches in the spring, the whipporwills in the summer, the chickadees in the fall, or the cardinals in the winter months. Whatever the season, there is always music right outside my window.
I am thankful for the time spent with my middle daughter as we dug up the bounty of sweet potatoes.
I am grateful for the ease and colors that annuals such as zinnas and cosmos bring to my dinner table as cut flowers in vases. Cut flowers are a wonderful way of extending the garden inside the home.
I am grateful for the taste of buttered sweet corn in the summer time.
I am thankful for my chickens. Not only do they bring me fresh eggs each day, their manure is gold in my compost piles, and they are simply fun to watch in the front yard, as they scratch for insects amongst the trees.
I am thankful for my two friends at church who helped me cut down the many trees for my new veggie bed.
I am thankful for my two neighbors, who helped chop up these trees into firewood.
I am grateful for lightning bugs, crickets, and campfires; all which help to make summertime magical for my children, as memories are created.
I am grateful for my many butterfly bushes throughout my yard, as they attract the hundreds of butterflies, adding beauty to the air.
I am thankful for those speeding jets that whiz by me in the warmer months, the magical hummingbirds. They are amazing to watch.
I am thankful for trees that flower in the spring. I am also thankful for the wonder of the daffodil, that hides in the soil all year long, and then pops up in the early spring, as they provide a show, dancing in the wind.
I am thankful for the many colors, shapes, and sizes of the daylily, and the ease that it takes to grow them. If you have only grown the yellow and orange ones, then you missing out on a world of color.
Surely, goodness and mercy have flown my way. My cup very much overfloweth, and my blessings continue day by day. I hope that you find many blessings, not only in your garden, but in your life, as well. Enjoy!
