God Will Supply
Living in Jasper County has been one of the joys in my life. I have lived in a lot of various places, all over the country, from the swamp to the mountains; and from the land of country music, to the heartland of southern heritage. All of these places; and my heart belongs to Monticello.
One thing I enjoy about this land is the deer hunting. I am not an avid hunter, i.e., I do not own a four wheeler, have a hunting lease, wear camo throughout the year, have a gun rack, or a deer head mounted on my wall.
However…I love to hunt. I am, to the sport of deer hunting, what the person fishing off of the bank is to fishing. I’m that guy; and I am completely okay with it.
Well, this year is a busy one for me, and the place where I used to hunt is no longer available. So I had pretty much resolved myself to the fact that hunting was not an option for me this year. This realization presented a bit of a challenge for us as a family, because all we eat is deer meat. Seriously, the children do not like beef, and deer meat is less expensive. My hunting trips were more for provision than for sport.
I prayed about this and just left it in the hands of God; He is, after all, in control of everything! Well, a few days later, I ran into a friend who hunts a lot….a lot, and he asked me if I could use some deer meat. I told him “yes, we can use all that you do not want!” I told him that he could just bring them to the house, and that I would clean them.
Little did I know that this guy really loves to hunt….and he is a fantastic shot! He has blessed us with enough meat to last into next year, as well as enough to bless other families in need. What a blessing!
The other night, as I was de-boning some of the roasts, I remembered asking God to provide us with the food. It was an emotional moment for me, there at the sink. To trust the Lord to meet needs, and then to see Him so clearly meet those needs is a beautiful thing.
The Word says, in Philippians 4:19, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” God does provide for His children, and always according to His glory. To give God the praise and Thanksgiving, now that is the key. I wonder how lives in America would change if we as a Christian nation learned how to be thankful for all of the things the Lord does for us.
If we defined prosperity as, oh I don’t know, as a deer gifted for the provision of the meat it supplies. In a land that is so blessed, I fear that we may sometimes confuse what the goodness of the Lord really is.
For me, recently, it has been the abundance of meat for my children, that has come from a friend; and the beautiful land where we live.
