Support Local Candidate

Voters will go to the polls in less than a month to select the individuals who will represent us at the state level for the next four years, as well as vote on school board candidates and several other questions.

The Republican candidate for state representative, to fill the seat vacated by Jim Cole, is Monticello’s former Mayor Susan Holmes.
Supporting Mrs. Holmes for this position is a no-brainer. Mrs. Holmes was born and raised in Jasper County. She has always had the best interest of the local community in mind. And, now she wants to serve at the state level.

The district which represents Jasper County also includes much of Jones and Monroe Counties and part of Lamar County. It has been 50-plus years since the representative for this district has hailed from Jasper County.

The best person to represent us is someone who knows us, someone who loves us, and someone who wants to take care of us.
In these troubling economic times, Mrs. Holmes may not be able to steer a lot of money our way, but we certainly will be given consideration for monies available.

She has said that when she served as mayor she wished the people at the state had first served at the local level. Everyone is familiar with “unfunded mandates”—rules the state legislature requires local governments to live by which cost the local governments money, and for which the legislature provides no source of funding.
Mrs. Holmes, having served at the local level, can lend her expertise to the debate when such issues arise.

Mrs. Holmes served 12 years as mayor of Monticello, and the city saw much change while she was on board.
They saw a woman who got things done. They saw a woman who fulfilled her oath of office by doing what was best for the city, even though it was not always the most popular thing to do. She even lost some friends, but she served her community.

Mrs. Holmes was appointed to a position with the U.S. Department of Agriculture by President George Bush after her service as mayor. Her husband’s business interests have long extended across the state.

They have traveled the state extensively and have contacts in every area of the state. Mrs. Holmes, and her affable husband, Paul, are popular throughout Georgia.

That translates to alliances; it translates to influence, it translates to getting things done!

Jasper County, and our neighbors, need to select Susan Holmes as state representative, and then we can be confident that we have an ear and a voice in the legislature
