Sale Season

Yep, the Jasper County garage, carport, yard sale season is here!
Each week The Monticello News has numerous ads for said sales. Those people with the STUFF want to sell it to those without enough STUFF.

Homemade yard sale signs along with ones offered by The News dot the landscape pointing the way. Many people love these sales and devote entire days driving from place to place, some come with lists for themselves and others, lists with sizes, some just like the loose interpersonal relationships they develop haggling over prices or meeting new people, BUT everyone is in search of the bargain of the century.

My mother loved yard sales and would buy stuff one week and sell the same stuff the next week.

We were always afraid of forgetting something at her house for fear she would slap a price sticker on it and some yard saler would drive off with it. “Hey, that’s my raincoat, bring it back!!!”
I have been known to frequent them although I prefer thrift stores which are usually a lot more organized, air-conditioned or heated and all the STUFF is in one place.

Over the years my quest has been the unusual finds. Some of my favorite finds are a plastic water bottle covered in hundreds of assorted pearl beads, a wallet made entirely out of folded Pall-Mall cigarette packages, but the “piece de resistance” is a plastic loving cup engraved “The Best Husband.” Well, maybe not anymore…
Happy Junking Ya’ll!!!
