Volunteer and Make a Difference
2010 marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and Jasper County Primary School (JCPS) is getting back to the basics with this year’s theme.
JCPS will honor Earth on Earth Day, April 30, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The observance is sponsored by the staff at JCPS, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, local fire, emergency medical technicaians, and sheriff’s department which support our planet through environmental education and awareness.
The “Let’s Get Wild” program presented by Steve and Sharon Scruggs will also be a part of the program. This is a small group of volunteers who give freely of their time in order to make the day a learning experience for young and old—and the annual celebration—a success.
There are a lot of different volunteer opportunities with this annual Earth Day Celebration. Whether you’re available during the celebration itself—or can donate time or money—there’s something for everyone.
“When was the last time you volunteered?” sponsors asked. “The rewards are endless.
“Also, you learn what is new and what can be reduced, recycled, and restored.”
Anyone who would like to get involved as a volunteer, as an exhibitor, or a sponsor should contact organizers for more information and for an opportunity that fits the individual’s schedule.
