Recreation Board Selects Bidder For Irrigation System
During a regular meeting of the Jasper County Recreation Board last Thursday, Recreation Director Ira Warnock presented six sealed bids to the board for their consideration to install an irrigation system at the recreation complex.
The bids included Barco for $44,200, Dan Odom for $49,112, LR&W for $55,945, Rain Pro for $59,000, Walker Landscaping for $36,800 and T. Mac Wilder & Assoc. for $51,993.
After a great deal of discussion of the details contained in each bid including the size of the pump, other materials and reputation of the firms, Mr. Warnock recommended T. Mac Wilder & Assoc. of Tifton. Allen Smith made a motion to go with this firm; it was seconded by Nancy Stafford and passed 3-0 with Greg Robinson abstaining.
The board’s recommendation will now go before the Board of Commissioners (BOC) at the September 8 meeting.

The board also unanimously passed a resolution to lease the concession stand with a minimum bid of $5,000. The term of the lease would be from Sept. 1, 2009 through Aug. 31, 2010. According to the resolution the concessionaire will be responsible to provide all supplies, personnel and any equipment not already in inventory. The board also reserved the right to have the final say as to appropriate menu items and prices.
In other action the board considered bids for football/cheerleader uniforms from Signature Stitches and Dixie Sporting goods. After discussion Mrs. Stafford made a motion to recommend the low bidder, Signature Stitches, seconded by Mr. Robinson, which passed unanimously.
Also, the board unanimously passed a motion to establish a procedure for use of recreation department ball fields. The procedure specifies permission must be granted by the recreation department, a waiver must be signed, a fee of $150 must be paid per field and a $100 deposit would be required to ensure the fields were cleaned up. However, the $150 fee would be waived for schools, churches and non-profit organizations.
The board also approved a $325 league fee for coed softball. In addition it was announced the department’s web site would be furloughed until next year. Also, Mrs. Stafford announced she would like to rotate off the board.
