Stanton Springs Ready for Business
The sometimes controversial Stanton Springs, a 1,600-acre master-planned residential and business community located on Hwy. 278 just before it crosses I-20 east of Covington, has opened its first mile of the development. Just beyond the landscaped entrance lies a four-lane parkway separated by a tree lined buffer.
It is also complete with sidewalk, street lights, water, sewer and telecom. According to Rees Waite, Vice President of TPA Realty, it’s ready for its first tenants, and there are some prospects.
The project is a private-public partnership between TPA Realty Services and the Joint Authority of Jasper, Morgan, Newton and Walton Counties. The controversy in the past has been due to the cost to Jasper County versus the future benefits of the development, although the cost to Jasper has been 10 percent compared to Newton and Walton’s 37.5 and Morgan’s 15 percent.
At the Authority’s regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening, Jasper County was represented by members Steve Jordan and County Commissioner Charles Hill.

The Economic Development Team reported a move was under way to get DOT to place signs for the development on each side of the I-20 exit, and also a new billboard at the site entrance.
In the Financial Report, it was reported that since 1998, the Authority has had an income from grants, loans, interest, land sale and other sources of $25,900,018, and expenditures of $25,459,960, leaving it with cash on hand of $440,058.
Since 1998 Jasper County has contributed $515,245, representing 10 percent of the total from all four counties.
Modeled on TPA Realty Services’ highly successful Johns Creek development, Stanton Springs is ideal for businesses requiring built-to-suit opportunities, large corporate campuses or distribution/light industrial centers.
The final plan of the 1,600 acre development will include 577 acres of business/light industrial, 288 acres of office space, 199 acres of open space, 181 acres of residential, 171 acres municipal, 148 acres commercial and 56 acres of right of way.
