Be Thankful

I’m fixing to be thankful.
I’m thankful for dressing and gravy
And for the boys and girls in the U.S. Navy
I’m thankful for turkey and ham
And for tough old Uncle Sam.

I’m thankful for squash casserole
And for heroes of old
I’m thankful for pecan pie
And for the beautiful blue sky.

I’m thankful for rolls with butter
And for all my sisters and brothers
I’m thankful for sweet potato souffle
And the freedom to use ebay.

I’m thankful for macaroni and cheese
And the time we have at ease
I’m thankful for sweet iced tea
And the opportunity to just be.

I’m thankful for the sauce from the cranberry
And all the brave people in the military
I’m thankful for green beans and butter beans
And for all the children and the teens.

I’m thankful for lemon glazed pound cake
And for being able to live on the lake
I’m thankful for the congealed salad
And for the numbers when my friends are tallied.

I’m thankful for being physically sustained
And for the grace of being spiritually unblamed.

The blessing had been concluded and dishes were being dipped into and passed around the table. Steam was still coming off the dressing when it got to me.
I was so thankful when I saw the giblet gravy was fixin’ to be passed down to me next.
