Regular Player Wins Weekly Contest
Caren Cargile has been playing The Monticello News football contest just about since its inception, and this week she gets to claim her second win.
The last time Mrs. Cargile won, she collected a prize from Fred’s Finer Foods/Foodland which was located where Farmer’s Furniture now is. The owners were Fred and Betty Armistead, and Mr. Armistead died last year.
In last week’s contest Mrs. Cargile took the prize by picking winners of 13 games and predicting that 40 points would be scored in the Monticello-Twiggs County game, won by Twiggs 43-13 for a 56-point total. Presenting her $25 prize was Rita Goodman at Dairy Queen, the week’s prize sponsor.
Mrs. Cargile’s husband, Timmy, Dana Bailey and Dawn Schell also picked 13 winners, but predicted lower tiebreaker totals. Another 15 contest players picked winners of 12 games to qualify for the grand prize drawing—four tickets and other goodies for the 2007 Peach Bowl. Mrs. Cargile’s win was especially sweet because she was faithful to the Georgia Bulldogs and it paid off.
Her husband missed on that one, and they both missed onteh Maryland/Clemson contest. Mrs. Cargile’s other miss was she predicted Tampa Bay to beat Jacksonville, but the Buccaneers lost, 24-23.

Entries must be at The News office, 237 West Washington Street, no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 2. They may be brought in person, mailed, or faxed to 706-468-6576.
Each person who gets 12 or more right has his or her name added to the honor roll, and each subsequent time they earn that distinction it is marked with a number to the side. Right now Amanda Merritt has the most chances to win with four.
