Assessors Approve Utility Digest

Jasper County Board of Assessors convened for a called meeting Monday to approve the 2007 public utility digest.

Chief appraiser Lynn Bentley reported that the utility digest increased significantly this year primarily due to the state department’s value increase on lease lots.

The total amount billed for the 2007 public utilities is $66,156,442, a $4.87 million increase from the 2006 total amount. More than $3 million of the increased value is from Georgia-Pacific lease lots, said Mrs. Bentley. The chief appraiser said that the utilities are being billed at 40 percent, the full fair market value.

Assessors also approved several error and release forms not reviewed during the September regular meeting.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Assessors is planned for Tuesday, Nov. 6 in the Courthouse Law Library.
