Greg Robinson Is Contest Winner

Greg Robinson got serious about The Monticello News football contest this year…he won’t even ask his wife to drop off his entry, because he wants to be sure it gets here.

And, his perseverance paid off last week, when he was one of only two players to correctly guess the winner of as many as 12 of the games listed in last week’s Monticello News football contest. The other entrant with 12 right was India Appling, but she was further off the tiebreaker than Mr. Robinson. Hancock Central beat Monticello 15-12 Friday night to make 27 be the magic score. Mr. Robinson guessed 42, and Miss Appling guessed 44.

Kelly DeGarmo, owner and masseuse at Eden Massage on College Street presented Mr. Robinson with his prize Monday. Mr. Robinson said he’s been playing the football contest most every week for at least four years now. This was his first time to win, and all three of his misses came on college games.

Results of games in last week’s contest were Windsor 21, Piedmont 3; Wilkinson County 65, GMC 0; Georgia 45, Mississippi 17; Georgia Tech 13, Clemson 3; Florida State 21, Alabama 14; Auburn 20, Florida 17; Virginia 44, Pittsburgh 14; Wisconsin 37, Michigan State 14; Fort Valley State 33, Savannah State 2; Atlanta 26, Houston 16; Tampa Bay 20, Carolina 7; Oakland 35, Miami 17; Cleveland 27, Baltimore 13, and Green Bay 23, Minnesota 16.

This week, there’s a whole new set of games…public and private high school, college and professional games. Anyone can win. The football contest is designed to give no one an edge. Whoever wins this week will receive a prize worth at least $25 from Big Chic where Scott Smith, a big Tennessee fan, will likely be the presenter.

Complete rules and entry from are on page 15. Remember entries must be delivered to The News, 237 West Washington Street, or faxed to 706-468-6576 by 5 p.m. Friday.
