Water Main Breaks

City of Monticello workers responded to a report of water spewing on Frobel Street last Wednesday, to find a break in the six-inch water main about 50 feet from the water tank on Frobel Street.

The water was shooting up in the air over 20 feet, and into the power lines, said City Manager Hugh King. Water department workers found the valves and got them cut off, managing to keep the Frobel tank half full.

The Georgia-Pacific tank was three-fourths full and was not affected and provided water to parts of the city, said Mr. King. A lot of residential and commercial customers were out of service.

The repairs were completed about 11 p.m, and then the crews began reopening the valves, restoring water service to everyone by 3 a.m.
