Desires of Life
Many are the desires of life. We often see things that seem to be oh, so desirable. We have fleshly desires that can overcome us. We want what we want and think we should have what we want. It has been said, “You’d better be careful what you wish for, you may get it.”
On the other hand, it has been said that desire is the starting point of all achievement. May our desires be for that which is good and wholesome and right. And if that is the case, may it be what has been termed “a burning desire.” Then fan the flame.
Certainly we all should have a desire for the best possible life we can have, and the same for our family. And is it possible to have a better life than that which God wants for us and will provide for us if we accept His desires for us?
Yes, there are worthy and unworthy desires. The most worthy, the most helpful, the most useful desires that a person can possibly have are the desires to seek God, to learn of Him, to love Him with all our being, with a love that eagerly obeys Him.
Everyone at some time or another has a desire, however slight it may be, to know his or her Creator. The sun, the moon and the countless stars tell us of His existence. We need to cultivate that desire and not let it slip away. We need to learn who our Creator is and what His desires for us are. A study of the skies cannot reveal that to us, but our Creator’s revelation of Himself in the Bible can.
Don’t know where to start? That’s understandable, but help is available. My pamphlet Bible Study That Blesses is available free for the asking.
Begin your study of the Bible, God’s word, and learn where you came from, how to have the best life possible or what your purpose on this earth is, and what your eternal destiny will be when this life is over.
Yes, there is life after death. Let this be a true, burning, penetrating desire and you will learn this and more.
Jesus said, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”
Dwell on that desire that is worth having. A worthy desire. In your study in the Bible you’ll find more than enough for a lifetime. In Psalm 19:7-10 we read, “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
It’s never too early or too late to start. Start today and you can easily read through the New Testament before the year is over. Get a taste of that which is sweeter than honey. Let its truths enlighten your eyes. Soak up some of that wisdom. You’ll find your desire for the things that are worthy growing, developing, and blossoming.
Nurture your desire in the heavenly confines of God’s word and cultivate the soil of your heart. Feed it and guide it, support it and stimulate it, as you study God’s word and pray and believe it and obey it.
You will find your love for God and your love for His word growing.
The apostle Paul tells us that this desire is to be desired above every other desire. Jesus tells us the same. Desire that love above every other desire, and you shall have it. The scriptures promise us, “The desire of the righteous will be granted.” It all starts with our desire, the starting point of all achievement.
