Football Contest Has Tough Week

A topsy-turvy week on the gridiron was rough on News Football Contest players—most didn’t pick winners in more than half the games listed last week.

Of those who did, Missy Braden led the pack as the only entrant with 11 correct picks, winning the weekly prize and qualifying, once more, for the grand prize drawing.

Mrs. Braden picked up her $25 prize from McMichael’s Laundromat, sponsor of the week. Brandi McMichael, holding son, Nolan, made the presentation to Mrs. Braden’s children, Nicole and Trevor Wilson.

Mrs. Braden’s name was added to the grand prize honor roll for the third time this season, giving her that many chances in the drawing for a special package that includes four tickets to the 2006 Peach Bowl, including pre-game festivities and souvenirs.

With upsets the order of the day, Mrs. Braden correctly predicted Kentucky’s win over the hapless Georgia Bulldogs. She, like most contest players and the odds-makers, expected a win by the Atlanta Falcons at Detroit, and she missed on Monticello’s win over GMC.

But, unlike many players, she anticipated upset wins by Wake Forest, Washington, Kansas City and Denver. Thus she was among the few to pick winners in four college and four pro games.

The picking may, or may not, be easier with the 14 games listed this week in sponsors ads on page 11, along with the entry form, contest rules and grand prize honor roll. The winner will receive a $25 prize from Jasper County Lumber Company, sponsor of the week.

The deadline for entries to be delivered to The News office, or faxed to 706-468-6576 is 5 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 10.
