Contest Winner Gets 13 Right

Micah Tyler got a little something extra for his 18th birthday—a present you might say he gave himself. The Piedmont Academy student learned Monday that he was the winner of The News Football Contest.

In two years or so of playing the contest game young Micah had not won until last week when he was the only entrant to pick winners of 13 of the 14 games listed. His skill—or was it luck?—earned him the $25 weekly prize from Monticello Tire and Automotive, sponsor of the week.

Haley Sheppard presented the check, representing Tyler Lewis, owner.

The only game Micah missed was The Citadel’s win over Georgia Southern. Two players who picked 12 winners missed on different games: Lisa Batchelor had misplaced confidence with Georgia and missed on the Bulldogs’ loss and on the squeaker by Aquinas over GMC. Kevin McBroom missed only on the wins by Virginia and Baltimore.

Nine other players picked winners of 11 games to qualify, along with the top players, for the grand prize honor roll and a chance at a premium four-ticket package to the 2006 Peach Bowl. Each time a player picks 11 or more winners his or her name is added to the list for the drawing to be held at the close of the contest in December.

This week’s games are listed with sponsors ads on page 17, along with the entry form, contest rules and honor roll. Entries must be delivered to The News office or faxed to 706-468-6576 no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 3. The winner will pick up a $25 prize from McMichael’s Laudromat.
