Football Contest Begins This Week

It’s time to sharpen the old pencil and get out the crystal ball…or whatever it takes to predict the winners of football games in the annual Monticello News Football Contest. The contest starts this week; rules are unchanged.

Each week there are 14 games listed in sponsors ads, with one designated as the tiebreaker. Whoever picks the most winners, subject to the tiebreaker, wins a $25 prize from that week’s sponsor. A picture of the winner and sponsor appears in the following week’s issue.

In addition all players with 11 or more correct picks qualify for a season-end drawing for a Peach Bowl Bronze Package for 2006. The package includes four premium tickets to the game, passes to the pre-game festivities and other goodies. There is no limit to the number of times a player can qualify, and an “honor roll” of qualifiers is published weekly.

The Bank of Monticello is this week’s sponsor. The games are listed in sponsors’ ads on page 15 along with the official entry blank. But hurry—the deadline for entries to be delivered to The News office, 237 W. Washington St., or faxed to 706-468-6576 is 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 1.
