Hummingbird Festival Set

Georgia’s second annual Hummingbird Festival will be held next weekend, August 11 and 12 at Gaither’s Plantation in Newton County.

The festival will last from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12.

The festival grew out of the Georgia Hummers’ annual picnic which gained attendance each year from people across the state.

Because of the success of last year’s festival, an annual event was born. This year, festival goers may observe a hummingbird banding demonstration; watch the hummers swarm Gaither’s beautiful flower garden, tour Gaither’s plantation house, or enjoy hay rides. There will be artists and exhibitors with bird, garden and nature arts & crafts. There will be games and face painting for the kids and art projects.

Everyone is invited to head out and enjoy the food, door prizes and more.

Gaither’s Plantation is located on Davis Ford Road off Henderson Mill Road in Newton County, near Jasper County. Visit the website www.gahummer.org for more information.
