From the Preacher’s Desk

What do you value? How valuable are the things you value? Adam and Eve lived in a garden paradise, the Garden of Eden. They did not value their paradise home as they should have.
We are living in a country and in a land that has been blessed by God far greater than any country and any land on earth since then, with the exception perhaps of the nation of Israel during the time of King David and King Solomon.
America has been blessed in many ways far greater, and for a longer period of time. As many went to the original nation of Israel to see King Solomon, of whom it was said that he surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom, so many have come and many more have desired to come to see the land which has been blessed so by God.
Yet, we have many in this so blessed country that do not value the values of this country, whose motto is “In God We Trust.” In fact, many do not believe in the God that the majority believe in, the God of the Bible, and many more do not believe in any God at all but they are their own god.
A very vocal minority, the so called “gays,” lesbians, and trans-gendered, and those who are neither, but who support them with all their power, are seeking to impose upon the rest of us their demands to be given special treatment and this treatment enforced by law.
Their latest efforts were revealed in the June 19 announcement by the American Family Association (AFA), which stated, “National Education Association (NEA) Set to Endorse Homosexual Marriage. Teacher’s union begins plans to promote homosexual marriage in public schools.”

The NEA was set to endorse homosexual marriage at their convention in Orlando June 29. The new proposal was expected to pass overwhelmingly. But due to the AFA announcement and the efforts of AFA Online supporters, the NEA was forced to drop the proposal to endorse homosexual marriage.
Those who value the land we live in and recognize the value of families as originated by God spoke out quickly in protest. All who do so need to be vigilant in keeping up with efforts such as this that undermine the values of our country and families.
The AFA recommends that teachers who are concerned about their dues going to support such efforts look at the CEAI home page at http://www.ceai.org/index.htm or find another alternative.
It is sadly sickening that several so-called “Christian” denominations have endorsed homosexuality as a normal lifestyle and the pushing of the falsehood that God created them that way. The fact of the matter is that they do not really believe the Bible to be the word of God.
But for those who do, a reading of Genesis Chapter 19, Romans 1:24-27 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 is sufficient to see God’s view of homosexuality.
Tuesday, those who value our nation celebrated our nation’s day of independence. A finer article could not have been written than last’s week column “From The Pastor’s Study” by John Brown of Monticello First United Methodist Church on Reflections on Independence Day.
I too give thanks for those who protect our nation, and I pray with him that our nation might remain a beacon of freedom, justice and righteousness. If it does, God will continue to bless us.
Consider these things as you consider the value of our nation. What do you value? How valuable are the things you value? Are they the things valued by God?
