Tuesday Is Independence Day
Next Tuesday, July 4, is Independence Day, a national holiday. Because the holiday falls on Tuesday, most government offices are also closing on Monday.
Jasper County includes a “floating holiday” in its personnel policy, and this year it will be taken July 3. All county offices will be closed. In addition, the city of Monticello has said it will close both Monday, July 3, and Tuesday, July 4.
Both local banks have announced they will be closed Tuesday only, and the postal service will not operate. In Monticello, mail will be received and dispatched on Tuesday, and put in P.O. Boxes, but there will be no window service or home delivery that day.
The Monticello News schedule will not be affected by the holiday. The absolute final deadline for anything to be included in the Thursday, July 6 paper is Monday, July 3. Of course, items may be submitted in advance of that deadline.
All legals must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday, June 30, and classi-fieds, display ads, and news items may be submitted until 5 p.m. Monday, July 3.
