Board of Education Qualifying Begins

Qualifying will be held next week, beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, June 26, and ending at noon, Friday, June 30, for the non-partisan Jasper County Board of Education candidates.

School board members are elected by district, with the same district boundaries as County Commission. School board members serve staggered terms with Districts 1, 3, and 5, up for election this year, and Districts 2 and 4 in two years.

The posts for consideration this year are currently held by Stacy Standifer, District 1; Joel Gaston, District 3, and Joy Wild, District 5. All three have said they plan to seek re-election.

The qualifying fee is $108, three percent of the annual salary. Board members earn $300 a month.

The election will be held November 7.
