ASWSA Chairman Will Not Seek Reappointment
The Alcovy Shores Water & Sewer Authority (ASWSA) is seeking a new board member to replace current chairman Jim Brown, who will not seek reappointment when his term expires in July.
Chairman Brown notified fellow board members Mary Ann Hyde and Bobby McDaniel of his decision to not seek reappointment during last Thursday’s quarterly meeting of the ASWSA.
A new board will take office in July when the current terms expire. After discussing possible persons that may be interested in serving, members decided to call a meeting on or prior to June 15 to compile a list of nominees that will be submitted to the county commission for possible appointment. In order to serve on the board, individuals must be served by the water system.

With regard to the water system maintenance, board members approved the purchase and installation of a rotary phase converter by the Middle Georgia Electric, Inc.
Board members also reviewed two proposals for renovations of the standpipe tank. They accepted the low bid of $59,075 by National pending grant funds being located to complete the project.
Relative to the standpipe renovation, Juanita Gazaway reported that Rep. Jim Cole was still researching possible sources of grant funds to complete the project.
Mrs. Gazaway also reported that the service delivery map had been signed by the county commission and returned to the state. However, the returned map did not reflect the ASWSA existing lines and service area, she said. Mrs. Gazaway said that she had been in contact with county manager Greg Williams about the matter.
It was also reported that the authority had received receipts from the “Call Before You Dig” program. Mrs. Gazaway said that the receipts did not belong to ASWSA but rather the Jasper County Water & Sewer Authority. However the receipts were being charged to the ASWSA account at .19 cents per tag, which affects ASWSA’s annual premium.
In other business, 10 percent employee raises were given to secretary Mary Ann Hyde, water superintendent Frank Gazaway, and Mrs. Gazaway, effective May 1. Mrs. Hyde abstained from the vote.
During general comments, Mrs. Gazaway reported that water flow testing had been completed on the ASWSA fire hydrants by the Emergency Management Agency; consumer service reports would be released in May; and that photos from the tank inspection had been received.
Mr. McDaniel also brought one customer complaint regarding reconnection fees before the board.
