Jason Aldean Nominated
An artist with local ties is among the nominees for one of country music’s most prestigious awards.
Jason Aldean, the son of Barry Williams of Monticello, was nominated as Top New Male Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music.
Also vying for the honor are Rincon, Ga. native Billy Currington (Walk a Little Straighter, I Got a Feelin’) and Craig Morgan (Redneck Yacht Club), in nominations announced Wednesday, March 8 in Nashville.
Jason Aldean’s “Hicktown,” has achieved gold status, his first CD to accomplish that. Currently, “Why” is climbing country music charts.
Monticello native Trisha Yearwood was not among the five nominees for Female Vocalist of the Year. Competing for that honor will be Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson, and LeeAnne Womack.
Winners will be announced during a three-hour special to be broadcast live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The event, which honors country music’s top talent as well as the industry’s hottest emerging talent, will air on Tuesday, May 23, at 8 p.m. live ET/delayed PT on the CBS Television Network.
The Academy of Country Music was founded in 1964 with a mission to support, promote, and enhance the advancement of the country music industry worldwide. The Academy, which is comprised of more than 3,800 professional members and a newly established Associate Membership, is headquartered in Burbank, Calif.
