Holsey Tinsley Is Citizen of the Year

Holsey Tinsley was named Jasper County’s Citizen of the Year for 2002 at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner held last Thursday at the Monticello Visitor’s Center on the Square.

Monticello Mayor Susan Holmes, the previous year’s top citizen, presented Mr. Tinsley with the award.

Mr. Tinsley earned a Purple Heart for his service in the U.S. Army. He is a devoted member of St. John C.M.E. Church. Serving many years as a volunteer for the county’s youth, and helping with senior citizens, Mr. Tinsley is the epitome of a good citizen.

David Mooney took the reins as president of the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce, succeeding Brandie Deraney.

Don Betts, Associate Manager of the Entrepreneur Network program for Georgia Tech was guest speaker. He praised those gathered as community leaders, and said “you can feel the energy in the room.” He talked about the value of small business.

Before the meeting, a social hour, compliments of Bizzy Bee, was held at Americuts, which is adjacent to City Hall on the Square.

On Friday morning, Mr. Betts spoke at a breakfast meeting.
