Mayor Introduces Gov. Perdue
Monticello Mayor Susan Holmes, heading the Monticello delegation at the Georgia Municipal Association’s annual Mayor’s Day Conference in Atlanta last weekend, introduced Gov. Sonny Perdue when he spoke at a luncheon Monday.
Mayor Holmes is first vice president of the association and will be installed at its summer conference in Savannah this June. The governor spoke at the luncheon recognizing new “cities of excellence” a designation achieved by Monticello several years ago.

Others in the Monticello contingent for the three-day gathering at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel included Mayor pro tem Otis Clark, council member Jacqueline Smith (formerly Jacqueline Bell), city manager Walter Smith, Paul Holmes and Stone Workman, former councilman now state director of rural development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Jacqueline Smith, as president of the association’s fifth district, presided at that district caucus Monday morning. She also was among recipients of an Excellence Training Certificate recognizing 120 hours of GMA training.
Over the three days those participating attended a number of workshops, committee meetings, training sessions and heard several noteworthy speakers including Lt. Gov Mark Taylor.
Following the governor’s Monday address delegates toured the Capitol and met with individual legislators before the association recognized legislators at a reception at the 755 Club at Turner Field.
