Unlawful Dumping Is Alleged

Brian Paul Lott of Hwy. 16 west, Monticello has been arrested and charged with unlawful dumping for commercial purposes.

Apparently, Mr. Lott works for or owns a company that pumps out septic tanks. He was allegedly emptying the contents of the truck on the property where he resides on Hwy. 16 west.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Investigator David Ledford and Corporal Walter Rabon of the Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division, arrested Mr. Lott on January 23 after witnessing him dump a large quantity of sewage waste on the open ground at his residence on Hwy. 16.

Officers learned of this possible illegal activity when county enforcement officer Tom Kelly met with Cpl. Rabon and Inv. Ledford on January 21. The original complaint came from the Jasper County Health Department where Mrs. Melba Bridges is sanitarian.

After three days of surveillance, the officers apprehended Mr. Lott as he dumped a load of sewage, according to the announcement from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.

Mr. Lott was arrested and charged with unlawful dumping for commercial purposes, a felony charge, carrying a possible sentence of up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000.

According to Mrs. Bridges, sewage may be dumped in a land application type manner, if the person doing the dumping has the proper certifications, has received a permit from the local health department, and follows all required procedures.
