Johnny Malone Dies

Jasper County has lost a man who personified the term “public servant.” Johnny Malone, former Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy, has died.

He died early January 30 at the home of his sister on Liberty Church Road. Smith and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Services are planned for Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m. at Prospect-Liberty C.M.E. Church on Hwy. 11 north of Monticello.

Mr. Malone retired in 2000, after three decades of public law enforcement. Even though he no longer worked as a deputy, he served the community as a first responder, and those who know him always knew he was watching out for them.

Before he retired, Mr. Malone said, “I have loved every minute of working with Jasper County and the city of Monticello. I have learned a lot and seen a lot.”

Mr. Malone was named an “Outstanding Citizen of Georgia” in 1998 by Secretary of State Lewis Massey.
