Monticello Qualifying Opens Monday

Qualifying opens Monday, Sept. 8, for candidates for Monticello’s mayor and five City Council seats. Candidates may complete the necessary forms and pay qualifying fees at City Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily until Friday, Sept. 12.

Candidates for mayor and mayor pro tem run citywide while four council members are elected to designated posts in either of two districts.

Incumbents include Mayor Susan Holmes; Mayor pro tem Otis Clark; council members Jacqueline Smith and Bryan Standifer, District One; and Adam McGinnis and Scott Sauls, District Two.

The nonpartisan election will be held Nov. 4. The deadline for city residents to register to vote is Oct. 6.
