The paramedic crew put a helicopter on standby as they headed to the location. Soon after the ambulance arrived where Mrs. Houston was, she was transported down the road where a helicopter landed and immediately took her to Atlanta Medical Center.
The air ambulance took off with the patient at 5:36 p.m.
When deputies responded, the whereabouts of Mr. Houston were unknown. He was later located in a shop on his property and a helicopter was called for him. He was also flown to Atlanta Medical Center.
Wednesday morning Mrs. Houston was reportedly in stable condition, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Houston’s wound appeared to be more serious, the sheriff’s announcement said, and his condition was not known Wednesday morning.
Two weapons were found on the scene, and the investigation revealed that the shooting occurred as a result of a domestic altercation, the sheriff’s report said.
Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and Department of Natural Resources are assisting the Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
No further details can be released at this time as the incident is still under investigation, said the sheriff’s announcement.
