Grand Jury Hands Down 27 Indictments
A Jasper County Grand Jury returned 27 bills of indictment Monday, including ones for individuals allegedly involved in a drug ring that took a deputy hostage. Those persons face 14 different charges.
Another group charged together include Michael Doran Allen, Paul Dean Lewis, Brandi Jane Bass, George Allen Kennedy, Jr.., and James Dewayne Johnson, all of Monticello, who face 17 counts against them.
They include Violation of the Georgia Controled Substances Act (VGCSA) possession and trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, three counts of obstruction of an officer, giving false statements, hindering apprehension or punishment of a criminal, criminal use of article with altered identification mark, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, fleeing/attempting to elude, theft by receiving stolen property, giving false name, and false statements and writings.
Seven persons are named in the 14-count indictment involving the undercover deputy. They are Lamont Thurman, Charles Goolsby, James Roger Becknell, Jr., Amanda Martinez Valenzuela, all of Monticello; Daniel Driskell of Milledgeville, Micah Antwan Still of Covington and Laroderick Vernard Carter of Decatur.

Their charges include aggravated assault on a peace officer, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, false imprisonment, obstruction of an officer, maintaining a disorderly house, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and obstruction of an officer.
Another multi-count indictment charges Robert Allen Pope and James Dewayne Johnson, both of Monticello, with operating a chop shop, VGCSA, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, theft by receiving stolen property, and crossing guard lines with drugs.
Kathy Sue Woodhouse of Hillsboro was indicted on five counts including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, hunting under the influence, hunting with an illegal weapon, hunting big game over bait and hunting without orange.
John Gregory Williams of Salem, S.C. was indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, hunting big game from a public road, hunting big game from a vehicle, and hunting big game at night.
Stanley Lamar Freeman of Covington was indicted for possession of methamphetamine and Lortab, both with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, felony obstruction and financial identity fraud.
Tony Thurman of Monticello was indicted on charges of burglary, criminal damage to property in the second degree, obstruction and theft by taking.
Michael James Lackey of Monticello was indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction, and hunting without orange.
Thomas Marrion Lowe and Susan Leigh Lowe of Monticello were indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and VGCSA—possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.
Jennifer Lynn Collins and Stacey Elaine Thrash of Newborn were indicted on counts of possession and distribution of a dangerous drug.
Mickey Howard Osborn of Newborn was indicted on charges of felony obstruction and interference with government property.
Antonio Demorris Rooks of Griffin faces two counts of aggravated assault.
Gerald Brown and Jonquavis Dumas, both of Monticello, were indicted for possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

•Kenneth James of Monticello—aggravated assault.
•Bonnie Tillman of Monticello—obstruction.
•Arnold Timothy Edge of Lula—possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
•Qiana Manning of Monticello—financial transaction card fraud.
•Tommy Alexander Love, Jr.—arson in the first degree.
•Robert Allen Pope of Hillsboro—theft by receiving stolen property.
•Nicholas Dale Pierce and Tiffany Christine Mattison of Monticello—burglary.
•Jack Gregory Mitchell and Kimberly Denise Rietman of Monticello—manufacture of marijuana.
•Leo Frank Cherry of Monticello—aggravated assault.
An indictment is not an indication of a person’s innocence or guilt. It is merely saying there is enough evidence of a crime to move forward with prosecution.
