Thanksgiving
It’s just a few days away. A day we’ll get off from work. Hooray! Can’t wait. It’s the day for turkey and stuffing, and all the fixings, with cranberry sauce and maybe pumpkin pie, and the most important thing of all—the football games.
Hooray! Can’t wait. Maybe I can get someone to bring my plate to the couch so I don’t have to miss anything. I couldn’t stand that What’s that? Did you say, “Don’t forget to give thanks?”
Of course I won’t forget. I’m always thankful.
I’m a very thankful person. And especially when there’s so many football games to watch. Hooray! Can’t wait. And I’m especially thankful that Thanksgiving always comes on a Thursday, never on a Sunday.
What? There’s going to be a special early service at church? Where? What church? Oh, the one we go to sometimes. Well, it’d better end on time and well before game time, that ‘s all I’ve got to say. I don’t want to miss the first kick-off.
Am I thankful for anything else? Well, certainly. I’m a very thankful person. What am I thankful for? Why I’m thankful for everything, you know that. I’ve got the day off and I’ll have a meal and a half; boy will I stuff, and I’ll get to watch the football games until that last whistle blows. I’ll have to make sure I don’t stuff myself too much and fall asleep before the game’s over. I’d just hate that. What a day it’s going to be. Hooray! I can’t wait. I told you now, I’m not going to forget to give thanks. I’m a thankful person.
Hopefully, every reader of this article is a much more thankful person than the one above.

Certainly every thoughtful person is. We have so much to be thankful for. “O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens.” “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters.”
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?” “Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones, Give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” “How precious is Your loving-kindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.”
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.” “Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.” “We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks! For your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.”
“It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your loving-kindness in the morning. And Your faithfulness every night.” “Bless the Lord, O my soul;’ And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” “Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!”
“Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” “Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments.” “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” Praise the Lord, O my soul! While I live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.” (References furnished upon request).
While we have so much to be thankful for, these passages remind us from whom we receive our blessings and why we should be thankful. May this Thanksgiving day be truly a day of thankfulness and filled with the expressions of our thankfulness.
